Mrs Kari (Sigdestad) Grove 12 Sep 1935

Karl Sigdestad was born Oct. 4, 1854 in Opstryn, Nordfjord, Norway. Her parents were Sakarias and Synneve Sigdestad. She was baptized and confirmed in Opstryn church. She emigrated from Norway in the spring of 1881, and came to Wells, Minnesota, where she was urnted in marriage to John Grove December 21st of the same year.

They lived at Wells four years. In the spring of 1885 they moved to Dakota Territory and took homestead in Lynn Township, Day County, and made this their home for the next 30 years. Mr. Grove passed away July 12, 1911. Four years later Mrs. Grove moved to Bristol where she has lived the past 20 years.

The Groves were prominent among the pioneer builders. Besides a beautiful home of their own, they were charter members of the Bergen church, and Mrs. Grove was the first Bergen Ladies Aid President, a position she held for a term of 6 years.

After she moved to Bristol she attended and supported; the Bethesda Lutheran church, but asked to retain membership in the Bergen church.

The Grove marriage was blessed with 9 children, 3 sons and 6 daughters. Four of the children died while young.

Mrs. Grove has been in poor health the past several months sufffering from cancer. She endured the severe pain with utmost patience, putting her trust in God, and longed for the "Home Eternal". Peacefully she slept away Thursday afternoon Sept. 12th, aged 80 years, 11 months, 8 days.

She leaves the following children,-Mrs. Inga Johnson of Mitchell, Mrs. Rasmus Egge, Mrs. Lars Sandvik. Clara, and Selmer, all of, Bristol; 20 grandchildren, one greatgrand-child, 3 brothers, John, Rasmus and Sakris Sigdestad and one sister, Mrs. Iver Skaare all of Bristol.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, at one o'clock at the home in Bristol; 1:30 at Bethesda Lutheran church and 3:00 at Bergen Church north from Bristol. Pastors officiating were A. E. Distad, and M. J. Nilsen. Interment was made in the Bergen Cemetery.

The pall bearers were: Clifford, Leonard and Rudolph Egge, John and Lester Sandvik and John Johnson, all being Mrs. Grove's grandsons.

Relatives and friends from away at the funeral were: Mrs. Chester Moulton, Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs and, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Hanson of Aberdeen; Mrs. Orrnberg, Conrad and Ella, Appleton, Minn.; Mrs. Gust I Hoberg and Edith Johnson, Fargo N. D.; Leonard Egge, Britton, S.D. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Egge, Agnes Sigdestad, Mr. and Mrs. P. Sakariason, Mr. and Mrs. C. Jordanger of Webster, S. D.; John Johnson, Sioux Falls, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. K. Folven. Lily, S.D.

A woman of sterling christion character, Mrs. Grove had countless friends who will join with the Reporter & Farmer in extending sympathy to the bereved relatives.
