SECOND GENERATION3. Karoline STOPPEL was
born on 6 Aug 1851 in Cincinnati, OH. May have been born in Germany. Paternal
parentage in question. She died on 16 Nov 1928 in Minneapolis. She has reference
number 1.1.2. She was buried in oak Grove Cemetery, Brownton, MN. She resided
Minneapolis. She was also known as Carrie. Karolina (born August 6, 1851)
married Charles Conrad on March 1, 1869, in Rochester. They moved to Minneapolis,
then Anoka, then to Saint George, and later to Brownton in 1879. Brownton was
a bare town site at this time, and the Conrad's were the third family to settle
in this town. They had four sons: Oliver F., Oscar G., Othmar C., and another
son who died in infancy, and two daughters: Leona (married name - Wright) and
Ella May (married name - Jacobs). Charles was a finished cabinet maker. He
was a native of Wisconsin and when the call came for volunteers, he was mustered
into the service and served as a member of the 9th Wisconsin Infantry during
a portion of the Civil War. Charles died on November 5, 1885, at the age of
40. Karolina and her five children stayed in Brownton. In 1890, Karolina moved
to Minneapolis where she resided until her death on November 16, 1928.
She was married to Carl Friedrich August CONRAD (son of
Gottfried CONRAD and Hanna Charlotte MARQUARDT) on 1 Mar
1869 in Olmsted Co, MN. Carl Friedrich August CONRAD
was born on 25 Feb 1845 in Massin Prussia, Germany.
(4) He served in the military on 23 Mar 1864 in 9th Wisconsin Infantry.
He was a Cabinet Maker in 1870. 1870 Census He was a Saloon Keeper in 1880.
(5) 1880 Census He died on 5 Nov 1885 in Brownton,
MN. The Stoppel Books states that his birth year was 1885 and that Karl died
at the age of 40. He was buried in oak Grove Cemetery, Brownton, MN. He was
also known as Charles Conrad. Americanized his name to Charles Conrad. Karoline
