2. Johannes Robert STOPPEL was born on 4 Jun 1849 in Cincinnati, OH. May have been born in Germany. Paternal parentage is in question. He was buried in 1902 in Hillside Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. He died on 16 May 1902 in Olmsted Co, MN. When living in Minneapolis, John was employed by a livery and dray company. At the age of 52 he was killed in an accident with horses. John was baptized as Johannes Robert Stoppel, but he later shortened his name to John. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in his parents' home. He was seven years old when the family moved to Rochester, Minnesota. John farmed in Rochester Township and in Mower County. He married Sarah Fiegel,, daughter of. Emanuel Fiegel. She was the aunt of Lester Fiegel, Sr., who was the president or the Olmsted County Bank and Trust for many years. Later the family moved to Minneapolis where he died in 1902.

Before the family moved to Minneapolis, John farmed in southeastern Minnesota On the night of July 13, 1877, a tornado swept through the area causing much damage. The one and one half story house that the Stoppel's lived in was pulled off the foundation and spread across the farm. The Stoppel barn was also destroyed. A hired man who lived in the loft was carried for about one-quarter mile before being deposited on the ground. He was badly bruised. John, his wife, and their daughter were not injured. The total loss amounted to $800.00, but he had $700 insurance.

In May 1902 John was killed, at the age of 52, when he was kicked in the head by one of the horses in the livery stable where he worked. Death was attributed to an abscess of the brain. He was survived by his wife, three children, his mother and his brothers and sisters. The family from Rochester attended the funeral. He is buried in Hillside cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Many years later his widow died of old age. She too was buried in Hillside cemetery. The couple were the parents of three children,

He was married to Sarah Johanna FIEGEL (daughter of Emanuel FIEGEL and Wilhelmina Augusta KEOPPLER) on 19 Jun 1875 in Olmsted Co, MN. Sarah Johanna FIEGEL was born on 27 Mar 1857 in Salem Township. She died on 10 Oct 1948. She was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Johannes Robert STOPPEL and Sarah Johanna FIEGEL had the following children:
