HR: While not all of these men and women died from battlefield wounds, their lives were most certainly cut short due to the War. This list was compiled by Joy Fisher, jfisher@ucla.edu. This file contains a list of over 1000 South Dakota men and women who died while in their country's service during World War I, 1917 - 1918. It was compiled from many sources, including the Final Report of the SD State Council of Defense and the Official Bulletin of the U. S. War Department.
